The Journey So Far!

Well it’s been a CRAZY beginning of a year and we are just getting started!
With a beautiful wedding this weekend in Beverly Hills, CA. Then a flight out that night to Atlanta, later on in the evening I along with 6 friends take over a 18 hour flight to South Africa, a month long journey that I am surely never to forget.

I wonder what will this trip hold for me? Will I rediscover a new passion? Will I come back refreshed with new ideas and will I come back changed?
This month long vacation is not just any vacation but the first in three years for me. My business keeps me so busy it’s about impossible to take a break. I had to make a time for myself, a time of regrouping my thoughts and rediscovering why I do what I do! I plan on blogging alot about my trip!

MADISON, WI–March 23, 2009—EventDV magazine has unveiled the 2008 EventDV 25, and Joshua Smith of Monroe, Louisiana -based CINEMATICBRIDE was named to the list as one of the 25 hottest and most influential videographers in the world. The honorees were announced in a three-part awards show presented last week on EventDV’s online video channel, EventDV-TV, in a presentation viewed more than 4,000 times in a three-day span.

“As the event video industry’s one and only all-star team, the EventDV 25 gives us the opportunity to recognize those videographers who are wielding the most influence today, through their innovative work, educational efforts, and outreach to other videographers around the world,” said EventDV Editor-in-Chief Stephen Nathans-Kelly. “To make sure we recognize the right people, we turn the selection process entirely over to the ‘fans,’ and let our readers pick the team. Over the six-week online voting process, readers cast more than 2,000 votes, and our all-star team emerged. This year’s team reflects the increasingly international flavor of the business, with representatives from six countries and four continents.

In addition to voting for their selections, readers had the opportunity to supply a brief description of their chosen candidate’s merits. Of Joshua Smith, one voter wrote, “He has given the world a new way of seeing wedding video.”

Today I got to shoot photos of my good friend Naomi Carroll,
she just recently got signed by an AMAZING record label!
I had the honor of shooting her photos for her new CD coming out SOON!

So most of you know I am friends with Kelly Clark & Brandi Brownlee of www.kellymoorephotography.com and Millie Holloman of www.milliehollomanphotography.com
They have been really good friends of mine for a very long time and are always a blast to hang out with!
It’s always nice to have friends who really take an interest in giving great advice on business decisions when sometimes it’s scary to make those BIG changes.
Having that support is always refreshing and further pushes me into a direction I feel is the right way!

Anyway we all went to a really cool concert in Shreveport back in 08 and then went to Kelly’s house and got inspired to do a goofy fun music video! It was my first time to shoot with the Canon 5D Mark II! I learned its a completely different style you have to think in! So I just think photo the whole time and you pretty much have it!
The 5d Mark II is not going to replace my main Canon XH-A1 cameras anytime soon I don’t think but it’s been a great addition to my equipment for wedding and commercial shoots. A while back I had purchased a Red Rock Adapter system to be able to use any lenses but I found the thing was just way too heavy for my kinda shoots. When you travel as much as I do you gotta have things lite and somewhat small. And the Red Rock was just not an option for me!

Now I am not saying the 5d Mark II video features are perfect right now but for me using it for bits and pieces of projects its great to get the really shallow DOF I am wanting to do all the time. Every shoot you see of mine normally is shot with the Canon XH-A1 without any lens adapters. And I have found ways of shooting to get a fake DOF which is really nice but still it won’t come close to getting it really how I want it!

One thing to suggest is always do a shoot for Free with whatever new equipment you have come into your office as it gives you freedom to test things out and if it does not work OH WELL! No one is upset!
That way on your next shoot you will know how to use the equipment and not be worried if it works or not!

So here is the music video I shot from 12:30am - 4:30am all shot with the Canon 5d Mark II, one single video light, car headlights and 3 GOOFY women!

What a year 2008 brought!
To me as I am thinking my year of change began in February of last year than January and the reason I say that is because I changed my lifestyle last Valentines Day. So far within a years time coming up on sunday I have made a complete life change in my eating habits and work habits. I can’t describe how different I feel! I have a ton more energy than before and I also feel more confident in myself. I have lost a total of 56 POUNDS. I found that I had to get a whole new thing of clothes and I was able to wear cloths that I had never been able to wear due to body image not looking right.
All I can say is how important it has been for me to change my eating and exercise habits. It’s amazing to me how much we put in our bodies just in the food department. It’s honestly sickening to see all the fat content we have in American foods. Now days I don’t think twice about what I am eating as now it just comes natural. I challenge all of you to change your eating habits and exercise and you will become a new person. Not only in appearance but also in your mind. You will notice less depression less stomach issues less need for AIR CONDITIONING less everything!

My year has also brought some amazing adventures in my business!

This is totally new to me in writing as I found its a great time for me to bring onto paper the dreams I have even for filming.
So I challenge you when your listening to music to try something new and write from your heart what emotions and feelings you felt from songs as I found out it helped me learn how to describe ideas I have.

This breatheless beauty that for-takes my soul.. Haunts me like the night…
taunghts my soul to a pointe of no return… for beauty is like the valleys and fields with the invisible breatheing of life in motion that causes all nature to sway in a dance of silent life. I see the beauty that is coming…. a light so bright… a fog rolling in the sky… a shimmer of light coming threw the fog like a piercing sword touching me and consuming me with fant sounds of nature in the morn…. as morning approches… life overtakes this land… consuming it with the sounds of the eagle, the frogs in the distance and a fant yet beautiful smell of lillys. I see this land… this land of the swans coming in the distance. this land is filled with dandylions flying in the air the swans fill the land of water as if waves of white consume the water…could this be the land… could this be the place that sets the ton for a journey of limitless beauty….could this be?
As I begin my journey i begin to see a limitless beauty…she is the beauty of beauties…she is white waves…she is the beauty that has consumed my soul to the point of endless love for this figure so bright that my eyes have yet to be able to comprehend…yet to understand…yet to believe…this beauty has come to me and I with all that I am… with all that I will become.. will take with my soul to the end of all ends…to the land of all lands..to the realm of beauty in the deep limitless ends of beauty…as one we walk this walk of limitless beauty into the heart of all that is and is to come… we walk this in a love uncomprehendable - unimaginable and limitless… the boundaries are gone the gates have been lifted..the walls are torn… the veil has been lifted to create a love that is all and will always be pure yet haunting love…

For what is love in my heart, but it is yet a place that has been entered.. will the veil be lifted… will my heart enter into its house..will it enter into the inner courts….will I enter into this mystery of a feeling my heart has yet to feel? As it longs for this thing called love it has yet to experience it… yet to imagine its amazing consuming power that urns to overtake ones soul… No longer will desire and longing consume thy heart cause love consumes all that is in and out…encompassing all that is of ones soul to create the limitless beauty that will overtake all sadness and all that is yet to be revealed…

Could all this be a dream… all just a mer glimpse of things to come…as I awake from this dream of limitless beauty..deep longing calls and all of thy heart is like a trees bark..rough..corse..with no sight of a soothing touch…will I ever experiance the dream of all dreams…am I yet to live this life alone…to be consumed with sorrow and willowing to a mear sadness of uncontrollable tears..not of joy.. but of pain and anger… No I will be with my love… I will walk that journey into the land of the valleys…into the land of white waves and silent dance…i will walk these halls of the grand motion that is set before me beacause my love is coming out… coming toward my heart…running ever closer to my heat till one final day as it will come like the morning sun peaks off the creste of the mount… this limitless love will arrive not in my timing but the timing of a force that controls…a force that has created the one and only limitless love to dance with me.. to be with me… to love me…to consume all that I am and will become…
